COP 25: Madrid

Following the social unrest in Chile, the location for the 25th United Nations Climate Change Conference was changed at the last minute to Madrid, Spain. Since Madrid is the headquarters of Greensoft GMC, this provided a great opportunity to attend parts of the conference.

It was clearly unfortunate that the international talks were unable to reach a consensus in many of areas, pushing decisions into next year. The disconnect has meant that Article 6, the last part of the Paris regime is yet to be negotiated and resolved. The Paris Agreement’s Article 6 will establish complex policy mechanisms, which establish carbon markets to provide financial incentives to encourage the world’s nations to voluntarily up their emissions-reduction ambitions. Despite these disappointments, Greensoft GMC took the opportunity to host a side event, which provided an opportunity to catch up with previous clients, as well as meet new people from around the world.
